Singapore based Transport Capital and Hamburg based Toepfer Transport have announced the formation of TCT Shipbrokers, a joint operation of the two companies, earlier this month. TCT Shipbrokers will be based in Singapore and in the Transport Capital premises.
TCT Shipbrokers will offer the full range of shipbroking services but will commence with a focus on competitive containership and MPP chartering services as well as general sale & purchase services.
The new operation will be headed by Richard Wetzki who most recently was the Managing Director of Harper Petersen Asia based in Singapore.
Transport Capital Managing Partner Philip Clausius commented: “We have been wanting to extend our shipping related services into the commercial aspects of the business for a while and believe strongly that with the partnership with Toepfer Transport, for whom shipbroking is the core activity, we have found the right formula.”
Toepfer Transport Managing Partner Clemens Toepfer said: “On behalf of clients we have been selling many ships to Asia generally and South East Asia specifically over the last few years. We have been thinking about a Singapore desk, but believe this JV with a wellestablished Singapore based company like Transport Capital is truly a win-win for both companies.”
Richard Wetzki commented: “I am excited to be joining in substance two companies which have very complementary strengths and to establish TCT Shipbrokers as an independent operation in the Singapore shipbroking scene.”
Toepfer Transport is one of the largest Sales & Purchase and newbuilding shipbroking firms in Hamburg with a branch office in Shanghai. The broking team covers all ship types, but particularly container, multi-purpose/heavy-lift, bulker and tank vessels. Since 2015 Toepfer Transport developed in depth market research for the Multipurpose Shipping Market including the first market accepted Multipurpose Index (TMI).
